How to choose organic coffee
What USDA Organic actually certifies
That no synthetic pesticides or fertilisers were used on the farm for three years, that the processing facility is separately certified, and that the chain of custody is documented. It is a genuine, audited standard and it costs a farm real money. What it says about how the coffee tastes is nothing at all.
Organic is not the same as Fairtrade, and neither is a quality mark
Organic covers farming inputs. Fairtrade covers a minimum price paid to the cooperative. Neither says anything about cup quality, which is why a specialty roaster who names the farm and the importer is telling you more than either seal does.
